Wool Dryer Balls Save Time and Energy [Laundry]

Wool Dryer Balls Save Time and EnergyWe covered how you can speed up laundry drying times by adding tennis balls but you can create the same effect without the loud noises by turning a skein of wool yarn into three felted wool balls.

Household weblog One Good Thing By Jillee also points out that these balls function as fabric softener and you can add a few drops of an essential oil to give your laundry whatever scent you'd like. All you need to do is wrap a length of wool yarn around your fingers twenty times, slip the strands of yarn off your fingers and wrap the middle of that circle another twenty times until it reaches the size of a tennis ball and then you cut the yarn and tuck the end under another strand. A standard skein of yarn should make three or four of these balls. The last step is to felt the balls to make sure they won't unravel. Place a ball in the end of a leg of pantyhose or tights and secure it with a piece of synthetic string that won't felt and add the next ball and so on. Once everything is tied off run it through a wash cycle and your dryer on the highest heat settings.

At this point you will have several wool dryer balls that work great for improving drying efficiency and eliminating fabric softener.
