OU No. 9 in first BCS standings; Alabama, Florida claim top two spots

Three weeks ago, after dropping to 2-1 with a home field loss to Kansas State, it seemed far-fetched to think OU could make a charge to the top 10. But that's just what has happened, thanks to wins at Texas Tech and over archrival Texas.

The Sooners' No. 7 coaches poll ranking, No. 9 Harris Poll ranking and No. 10 computer ranking put them ahead of USC at No. 9 in the BCS.

Alabama is way ahead of the pack at No. 1, followed by Florida, Oregon, Kansas State and Notre Dame.

Then it's a long drop to LSU at No. 6. South Carolina and Oregon State are next, just ahead of OU.

Other Big 12 Conference teams in the first BCS top 25 are West Virginia at No. 13, Texas Tech at No. 17, TCU at No. 23, Iowa State at No.24 and Texas at No. 25.

The Sooners should expect to rise in the standings if they win upcoming games against Notre Dame (Oct. 27), Iowa State (Nov. 3), West Virginia (Nov. 17) and TCU (Dec. 1).
