Romney claims "No One Dies" from lack of Health Insurance

As slinkerwink has noted, just when you thought Romney's Thurston/Burns app patch had been replaced with a #ModeratMitt download, apparently he had back out of that OS revision. ?Mitt the Clueless Dick has returned.

During a Wednesday interview with the Columbus Dispatch, the former Massachusetts governor said he would give people a window of time to make a ?choice? to buy insurance ? even if they had pre-existing conditions.

And for those who didn?t make the ?choice? to pay for coverage and got sick anyway, ?Romney minimized the harm,? according to the paper.

?We don?t have a setting across this country where if you don?t have insurance, we just say to you, ?Tough luck, you?re going to die when you have your heart attack,?? he explained. ?No, you go to the hospital, you get treated, you get care, and it?s paid for, either by charity, the government or by the hospital.?

?We don?t have people that become ill, who die in their apartment because they don?t have insurance.?

What part of showing up at the Hospital on the edge of death with a treatable disease, and then only lingering for a few more hours or days doesn't this guy understand? Do people die in their apartment because they don't have insurance?

No, some of them die on the Emergency Room Floor while waiting to see a doctor.

People like this woman. http://www.cnn.com/...

NEW YORK (CNN) -- A 49-year-old woman collapsed and died on the floor of a waiting room at a Brooklyn psychiatric hospital and lay there for more than an hour as employees ignored her, according to the New York Civil Liberties Union, which on Tuesday released surveillance camera video of the incident.
And this one...http://www.msnbc.msn.com/...
LOS ANGELES ?? A woman who lay bleeding on the emergency room floor of a troubled inner-city hospital died after 911 dispatchers refused to contact paramedics or an ambulance to take her to another facility, newly released tapes of the emergency calls reveal.

Edith Isabel Rodriguez, 43, died of a perforated bowel on May 9 at Martin Luther King Jr.-Harbor Hospital. Her death was ruled accidental by the Los Angeles County coroner?s office.

Relatives said Rodriguez was bleeding from the mouth and writhing in pain for 45 minutes while she was at a hospital waiting area. Experts have said she could have survived had she been treated early enough.

Or this one...
NEW YORK ? A woman who died unnoticed on a hospital floor in an upsetting scene recorded by security cameras was killed by blood clots caused by a long period of physical inactivity, according to the city's medical examiner.

Esmin Green, 49, had been sitting in a waiting room at the city-owned Kings County Hospital Center for nearly 24 hours when she collapsed from her chair and slowly died on June 19.

She lay on the floor at the Brooklyn hospital for an hour before a nurse finally checked her pulse.

After an autopsy and weeks of tests, the medical examiner's office concluded Friday that Green was killed by pulmonary thromboemboli, blood clots that form in the legs and travel through the bloodstream to the lungs.

And then there was Joe Soptic and his wife who finally went to the Emergency Room where she discovered she had already contracted Stage 4 Cancer, at which point there was 'Nothing they could do" for her. ?She died 22 days later.

I don't think Mitt Romney Understands... I don't think he's concerned...
I don't think so either.

No, people aren't "dying in their apartments" who don't have health care -they can - in theory - go the Emergency Room and then simply Die There, or shortly after.

3 Years ago Harvard Released a study indicating that 45,000 people per year die from lack of insurance. http://www.reuters.com/...

(Reuters) - Nearly 45,000 people die in the United States each year -- one every 12 minutes -- in large part because they lack health insurance and can not get good care, Harvard Medical School researchers found in an analysis released on Thursday.

"We're losing more Americans every day because of inaction ... than drunk driving and homicide combined," Dr. David Himmelstein, a co-author of the study and an associate professor of medicine at Harvard, said in an interview with Reuters.

Overall, researchers said American adults age 64 and younger who lack health insurance have a 40 percent higher risk of death than those who have coverage.

Republicans have discounted and ignored this study because how could it be that more people are dying prematurely from lack of preventive care than are killed by drunk drivers (10,839 in 2009) or by homicide (12,996), and no one notices?

When Dr. Himmelstein says the amount of dead from lack of insurance is greater than the number of those killed by drunk drivers and by murder combined he's absolutely correct by a factor of 2:1

Ok, so Republicans say that can't be right, what other sources do we have for this information? ?Well, there's another report that says that "just" 26,000 Die Every Year from Lack of Insurance. Isn't that more comforting? http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/...

A national health care consumer advocacy group estimates that three Americans die every hour as a result of not having health insurance. ?

According to "Dying for Coverage," the latest report by Families USA, 72 Americans die each day, 500 Americans die every week and approximately Americans 2,175 die each month, due to lack of health insurance.

The report found that the reasons for being uninsured varied, but many of those without health insurance had coverage denied because of pre-existing conditions. ?Others have been priced out of the market on the heels of a failing economy - a time when keeping their homes and feeding their families took precedence over holding on to insurance in the face of rising premiums. And some lost their benefits when employers stopped providing coverage.

According to Families USA between 2005 and 2010, premature deaths rose from 20,350 to 26,100. The total number during that time was 134,120. ?Each state is affected, the organization said. Vermont had the fewest deaths with 28 while California had the most ? 3,164, according to this report.

Even with this lower estimate, the total is still greater than both the number of people killed by drunk drivers and murder combined.

It's also greater than what Mitt Romney thinks by approximately A Shit Load to 0.

Clearly we can see how hard he would work as President to alleviate this problem.

Not very damn hard at all.
