Japan, US, EU discuss rare earth supply security

TOKYO (AP) ? Officials from the United States, the European Union and Japan are pledging to work closer together on ways to ensure secure supplies of strategically vital rare earths and other critical materials.

U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu told a conference Wednesday in Tokyo that improving processing and recycling of the materials, used in many high-tech products, is vital in the medium term. He said that in the near term, they must be "used as sparingly you can."

China holds about a third of the world's rare earth reserves but supplies about 90 percent of what is consumed. In the past two years it has imposed limits on its exports, citing a need to impose order on an unruly domestic market and to reduce environmental damage.

That has raised protests from countries relying on supplies from China for many industries, including automaking and electronics.

The U.S., Japan and EU recently filed complaints with the World Trade Organization over Chinese limits on exports of rare earths.

"It is important the consuming countries and supplying countries ... develop a global supply chain so that we are not dependent on one source," said Japan's trade minister, Yukio Edano.

Looking to the long term, attention has now shifted toward supply-chain security, said Hans Dietmar Schweistgut, the EU ambassador to Japan.

The officials repeatedly stressed the need to work closely with other producing nations such as Australia and Canada.

Rare earths are used to make goods including hybrid cars, weapons, flat-screen TVs, mobile phones, mercury-vapor lights, and camera lenses.

Japan's need for such materials only increased with last year's earthquake and tsunami and resulting nuclear disaster, which has led to the suspension of almost all atomic power production. Such materials are required for wind turbines and other renewable energy production, Edano said.

"If we cannot access these resources, it will slow the transition to renewables. This is not acceptable," he said.

The U.S. has stepped up research on batteries, building materials and high-performance computers as part of the effort to find substitutes for some rare earths, while Japan and the EU are launching joint research this summer.

Flutter: The YC Startup That Wants To Put The World?s Webcams To Good Use

Screen shot 2012-03-26 at 3.40.53 PMSay you're sitting at your laptop, listening to music while responding to emails, writing code, or reading blogs. Then your phone rings, and the typical scramble ensues: You minimize your browser, maximize your music app, and search frantically for the pause button or volume control -- all, hopefully, before you miss the call. Sound familiar? That's a problem that Flutter, a startup in Y Combinator's latest batch of companies, has solved. Flutter is an app for Mac that lets you control the play and stop functions on Spotify or iTunes by simply waving at your computer. You can watch it in action in the video embedded above. That in itself is pretty nifty, but the really interesting thing is the company's long-term vision, which goes well beyond the ability to start and stop a Rihanna song with a wave of your hand. Ultimately, Flutter co-founders Navneet Delal and Mehul Nariyawala tell me, Flutter wants to power the eyes of our devices -- in the same way that Siri functions as the iPhone's ears.

Learn The Standard Needs for Commercial Loans - Finance Analysis

Posted by publisher on March 27th, 2012

Due to the fact several borrowers have much less than ideal credit score and traditional lenders for instance banks are not ready to underwrite their commercial real estate loans, there are several private lenders who?ve moved in to provide funds necessary by entrepreneurs to begin or improve their business or their demand for industrial equipment financing. A large number of lenders can be located on the web.

Banks calls for economic statements. Though your annual monetary statements may perhaps not matter a great deal to you however for banks, they may be regarded as a wealth of data. You should not apply for finance if the financial statements you might have are not up to date. You ought to consequently prepare and acquire you accounts and figures when choosing to obtain a loan.? In the past, individuals who wish to begin a business go to banks due to the distinctive loan packages and commercial loan rates they provide to potential borrowers.

However their requirements are strict that most loan applications get turned down. At this time, banks are beginning to loosen up slightly bit due to intense competition. There are various lenders around who are providing reasonable rates of interest and are lenient with their requirements.? In numerous circumstances, lenders would want you to be inside the business for two years or much more just before they begin thinking about you for a business loan.

You can find some lenders although requiring you to be 3-5 functioning. The cause for this can be that substantial number of companies tends to fail through the very first five years of operation. Also, when you have not been in the business for a minimum of two years, you won?t have any financial statement or tax returns of which they will have to have to appear at to estimate your cash flow. Yet another thing is the fact that it takes two years or additional for a corporation to begin showing earnings thus they can high quality for the loans

Cisco boosts telepresence system with new collaboration features ...

Cisco will announce improvements on Tuesday to its Jabber IM, presence and video-conferencing product, as well as to its room-size "immersive" telepresence systems, as the networking giant continues to push its way into the workplace collaboration market.

Cisco plans to release at some point in the second quarter its first version of Jabber for the iPad and an upgrade of Jabber for Windows desktop and laptop PCs, as well as a new top-of-the-line telepresence system called TX9000, designed to improve upon existing Cisco products of this sort.

Jabber for iPad will let users communicate using voice, video, IM, presence and conferencing, using standards like H264, XMPP and SIP for interoperability with other systems.

Jabber for Windows features high-definition video, voice, presence, IM, desktop sharing and Web conferencing, as well as integration with Microsoft Office, and also uses standards like H264, XMPP and SIP.

Meanwhile, the TX9000 is designed to take Cisco's large telepresence systems from an immersive experience to one that also allows for what the company calls "high-intensity collaboration" for scenarios like sophisticated planning sessions, brainstorming, "war rooms," critical problem resolution and engineering design.

Among the new features introduced in the TX9000 is the ability to share content on the main telepresence screens, as opposed to only on the smaller one below them, along with "point and highlight" capabilities, white boarding and calling up data from multiple content sources, according to the company.

Also new is a simplified way to integrate WebEx online meetings with TX9000 sessions, and a simpler way to launch and manage TX9000 meetings using a touch-based user interface.

The TX9000 also features a new placement for its cameras, designed to enhance eye contact among participants while making the cameras less conspicuous. It doesn't require additional special lighting nor audio.

The TX9000 can provide video quality as high as 1080p at 60 frames per second, while requiring 20 percent less bandwidth than existing Cisco telepresence systems. The TX9000 can be used by six people, while the TX9200 model adds a second table for up to 18 participants.

Cisco also claims that system setup has been simplified, so that installation partners can complete a job in as little as two days. List price in the U.S. starts at $299,000.

Industry analyst Maribel Lopez from Lopez Research said Cisco now has a good portfolio of video communications across its products, which is important because video will continue to increase its importance in workplace communications and collaboration.

"Video will change over time. Most people think of it as face-to-face. While this is interesting, it doesn't take into account that video will be next-generation content. Today content means documents like PowerPoint and Word files. Tomorrow more content will be video. So video is more than just my tiny face looking at another tiny face on a screen while we share a PowerPoint," she said via email.

Collaboration traditionally has, and continues to be, strongly associated with email and document management, which has made this market a challenge for Cisco, but it could ride video to a leadership position, she said.

"The goal for Cisco is to change what collaboration means. For example, no vendor is the established choice for doing secure cross-company collaboration with video and document sharing and repositories," she said.

Many applications can use a built-in collaboration and communications component and no vendor owns this space, she said.

"Communications will have voice, video and attachments associated with it. It will be portable across devices. It will have a knowledge of what you have access to and if that varies by what device you are using or where you are located. It will also have knowledge of whether you are communicating internally or across groups. This is contextual communications and this is the future," she said.

Some Thoughts On Customer Service | Free - Business in Australia ...

It should be easy to give customers what they want: great products and good service. It sounds like such a straightforward thing, but making customers happy has certainly become a murky concept throughout the years. Some companies do their best to deliver what the customers want, but come up short some of the time. Other companies focus instead on making a sale and boosting their profits rather than listening to what the customer is asking for specifically. As a result, they end up not making a sale at all and succeed in annoying the customer, perhaps even driving him or her away.

Charlene, a dental assistant, took a close look at her mobile phone bills. She has been with the company for a long time and didn?t question that amount she was paying, but financial constraints pushed her to check where she can make some cuts. She found that she had actually been paying too much for the services and is subscribed to a plan with features that she doesn?t really use. So she decided to call the company to ask for options that will fit her needs better and which will also allow her to shave a fair amount off her bill. Instead of giving her what she wanted, the customer service representative chose this opportunity to upsell, suggesting a plan that will make her pay $120 a month, compared to the $80 a month she was already paying. ?What?s $120 a month, anyway?? the representative asked. Annoyed, Charlene chose to discontinue her account, not wanting to stay with a company that doesn?t value what she was saying.

There are also customer service professionals who don?t act completely professional at times. Ellen, a marketing strategist, was having trouble with her Internet service, and called her provider?s hotline for help. Her connection problems have been going on for more than a week, and she was explaining to the person on the other line the steps she had already taken and what the issues were. She was annoyed to hear the other person giggling while talking to her. To Ellen, it seemed patently unprofessional, as if her complaint wasn?t being taken seriously. Even if the giggle might have had nothing to do with her call, it still wasn?t a sound anyone would like to hear when seeking assistance.

Such incidents may seem small and petty, but for the customer who is having trouble with the services being provided by a company, these can make or break how they see that company and have an impact on their decision about whether they should retain the service or look elsewhere. Customer service professionals have to keep in mind that every single customer is important, even if they are working for a big company with millions of customers.

Managers have a role to play in ensuring consistently good service and in reminding their team that they should prioritize having the proper attitude and concern for their customers? needs. Customer service professionals, however, must listen to what the customers want, and they also shouldn?t need constant reminding about their tasks and responsibilities.

A good business should have a planned strategy for all situations. Do you have a reactive strategy for dealing with disasters, or does your strategy focus on preventing and avoiding those disasters in the first place?

Sony Shakes Things Up Under New CEO, Reorganizes For The Post-PC Era

aiboSony enters a new era April 1st. On that day Kazuo Hirai will replace Sir Howard Stringer as Sony's president and CEO. The challenges ahead are massive; Sony is facing a financial and organizational calamity. Sony is simply too big and has fallen too far and Hirai is tasked to bring Sony back to glory. Sony just announced a new corporate organization that shows drastic change is underway. Under this strategy, dubbed One Sony, separate Sony divisions will share management, hopefully streamlining decisions and creating a more unified end-user experience that better utilizes Sony's content offering. Sony under Stringer was an unwieldy multi-headed beast. Hirai is clearly trying to tighten the reins. It just might work and it has to work.

Former Sinatra home back on market

Zillow

Alicia Keys' Manhattan penthouse is all style and glass.

By Staff, Zillow

Alicia Keys is moving on from her gorgeous Manhattan apartment, Frank Sinatra's former home is for sale, and the former rental home of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes as well as Russell Crowe is available for lease.

Alicia Keys lists 'Empire-State-of-Mind' penthouse

Forget about moving on up. Singer and New York native Alicia Keys did that a long time ago, trading her childhood residence at the artist-friendly Manhattan Plaza apartment complex in Hell's Kitchen for a slick SoHo real estate market triplex.

Now Keys and her producer husband Swizz Beatz have listed their Crosby Street penthouse for $17.95 million only two years after the couple bought the place from funk/soul/rocker Lenny Kravitz for $12.5 million.

Zillow

The dining room features immense skylights and chandeliers.

According to Sotheby's International, which holds the listing, the apartment boasts five bedrooms, four bathrooms, four powder rooms and an enormous state-of-the-art, windowed, gourmet eat-in kitchen with walk-in butler's pantry. And separate formal dining room that faces east encased in a glass solarium.

That's only the start of the grand tour of a pad once rented by Nicole Kidman and Denzel Washington. The place also has an expansive living room with fireplace and library/media room that are all surrounded by undoubtedly one of the most beautiful private terraces in all of SoHo. Upstairs, there's a separate private master suite complete with spa, pass-through dressing area and private terrace.

Read more about Alicia Keys' penthouse.

Owner of former Sinatra home didn't stay long

Zillow

Frank Sinatra owned this home during a low point during his career.

When Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Brad Grey bought Frank Sinatra's former Los Angeles home in November 2010 for $18.5 million, the famous Hollywood producer had big plans to restore and renovate the brick ranch that sits on a parklike 2.3 acres.

Turns out that, in the end, the Sinatra house that inspired Grey's dreams was merely a nice set for Grey's wedding in April 2011 to his new wife, Cassandra. The wedding was called lavish, and attended by the likes of Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Lopez. The couple has since moved to Bel Air, making Grey's ownership stint a lot like Sinatra's.

"My client still owns (the Sinatra house) but I sold him another property. He didn't want to go through the process of renovating the house,'' said Stephen Shapiro, who holds the listing at Westside Estate Agency.

The property has been back on the market since September, when Grey listed the Holmby Hills residence for $23.5 million. After a price drop on March 15, the former Sinatra home at 320 N. Carolwood Drive was re-listed for its current list price of $19,995,000.

According to the Sinatra biography "The Voice,'' by James Kaplan, Sinatra bought the house in 1948 for $250,000 at a time when his career was at a low ebb. Sinatra had built a dream home in Palm Springs, and was strapped for cash and on the verge of divorce.

Zillow

Sinatra's former home spans 8,600 square feet.

Rent like Tom Cruise or Russell Crowe for $100K a month

Zillow

The rental has nearly three acres of manicured grounds.

What do Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and Russell Crowe have in common?

Besides star status and high-paying movie roles, all three have at some point, for at least a little while, called 918 N. Alpine Drive home in Los Angeles.

The Tudor-style home was rented by Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise for $55,000 a month and then leased by Russell Crowe while he filmed "State of Play."

In 2001, the nearly three-acre estate was also the filming location for several scenes in the movie "Blow" starring Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz.

And for someone with a celebrity-sized housing budget, the home is available again ? this time for a whopping monthly rental price of $100,000.

Available as a short or long-term lease, the Beverly Hills rental is set back from the street ? perfect for privacy-seeking celebrity tenants. With almost three acres of landscaped property, 6,685 square feet of living space and three separate guest apartments, the estate also has enough room for the star with the biggest entourage of stylists, security personnel and various and sundry assistants.

Zillow

The backyard features private gardens surrounded by high hedges and greenery.

Fourth-graders get their very own 'Earthrise'

NASA / JPL-Caltech / MIT / SRS

This view of the lunar far side with Earth in the background was taken by the MoonKAM system on NASA's Ebb spacecraft on March 17. A little more than halfway up and on the left side is the crater De Forest. The crater is near the south pole and receives sunlight at an oblique angle when it's on the illuminated half of the moon.

By Alan Boyle

More than 45 years after the first "Earthrise" picture, fourth-graders got to pick their own shot of our home planet peeking over the moon's horizon, courtesy of NASA's GRAIL mission.

The new views of Earth from the moon are included in GRAIL's first batch of student-selected images, snapped by the Ebb spacecraft's MoonKAM camera from March 15 to 18 and released today. Ebb and its twin, Flow, are orbiting the moon to study the lunar gravity field ? and students get to choose what the small cameras on the washing-machine-sized orbiters take pictures of.

"MoonKAM is based on the premise that if your average picture is worth a thousand words, then a picture from lunar orbit may be worth a classroom full of engineering and science degrees," MIT planetary scientist Maria Zuber, GRAIL's principal investigator, said in a NASA news release. "Through MoonKAM, we have an opportunity to reach out to the next generation of scientists and engineers. It is great to see things off to such a positive start."

The first targets were selected by fourth-grade students from Emily Dickinson Elementary School in Bozeman, Mont. They earned that honor as a reward for coming up with the names for the spacecraft, Ebb and Flow, during a nationwide competition last year. (Before the names were unveiled, the probes were known merely as GRAIL-A and GRAIL-B.)

More than 2,700 schools in 52 countries are in the pool for target selection. Suggestions for picture-taking are funneled through the GRAIL MoonKam Mission Operations Center, at the University of California in San Diego. The MoonKAM program is led by Sally Ride, who became NASA's first woman astronaut in 1983 and is now president and CEO of an educational company called Sally Ride Science.

"What might seem like just a cool activity for these kids may very well have an profound impact on their futures," Ride said in today's news release. "The students really are excited about MoonKam, and that translates into an excitement about science and engineering."

Ebb is only the latest camera to snap that iconic shot of Earth over moon's horizon. The first such picture from a NASA probe came on Aug. 23, 1966, during preparations for the Apollo moon shots, when the unmanned Lunar Orbiter 1 sent a black-and-white picture back to Earth.

Apollo 8 astronaut Jim Lovell recounts 1968's history-making odyssey from Earth to the moon and back.

The best-known Earthrise picture is the one that Apollo 8's crew made famous in 1968, but even after the Apollo program ended in 1972, robotic probes have periodically sent back fresh views of our planet as seen from deep space. Japan's Kaguya orbiter, for example, captured a high-definition Earthrise on video in 2008.

Some experts believe seeing Earth from this perspective gives viewers more of an appreciation for its beauty and fragility, leading to a spiritual phenomenon known as the "Overview Effect." Will today's fourth-graders get a chance to experience Earthrise and the Overview Effect in person? I'd like to think so, but what do you think?

Are You Building A Company, Or Just Your Credentials?

diploma wallY Combinator recently announced that for the next batch, the incubator will accept applications from groups and individuals without an idea. That same night, I received a breathless call from a friend currently finishing up his MBA at an elite east coast business school, asking me for help putting together his ?Without Idea? Y Combinator application. This friend is smart, dynamic, and an all-around great person. But he?s not someone I consider to be entrepreneurial. He was a management consultant at a big firm for years before business school, and loved it. He?s the first to admit that his interest in startups conveniently coincided with the premier of The Social Network a few years back. So on the call, I asked him, ?why jump into entrepreneurship now. You are someone who likes to be on a stable path. Why do you suddenly want to start a startup?? His answer: ?Even if the startup ends up going nowhere, graduating from Y Combinator would be such a great credential.?

Study finds room to store CO2 underground

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

A new study by researchers at MIT shows that there is enough capacity in deep saline aquifers in the United States to store at least a century's worth of carbon dioxide emissions from the nation's coal-fired powerplants. Though questions remain about the economics of systems to capture and store such gases, this study addresses a major issue that has overshadowed such proposals.

The MIT team's analysis ? led by Ruben Juanes, the ARCO Associate Professor in Energy Studies in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and part of the doctoral thesis work of graduate students Christopher MacMinn PhD '12 and Michael Szulczewski ? is published this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Coal-burning powerplants account for about 40 percent of worldwide carbon emissions, so climate change "will not be addressed unless we address carbon dioxide emissions from coal plants," Juanes says. "We should do many different things" such as developing new, cleaner alternatives, he says, "but one thing that's not going away is coal," because it's such a cheap and widely available source of power.

Efforts to curb greenhouse gases have largely focused on the search for practical, economical sources of clean energy, such as wind or solar power. But human emissions are now so vast that many analysts think it's unlikely that these technologies alone can solve the problem. Some have proposed systems for capturing emissions ? mostly carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels ? then compressing and storing the waste in deep geological formations. This approach is known as carbon capture and storage, or CCS.

One of the most promising places to store the gas is in deep saline aquifers: those more than half a mile below the surface, far below the freshwater sources used for human consumption and agriculture. But estimates of the capacity of such formations in the United States have ranged from enough to store just a few years' worth of coal-plant emissions up to many thousands of years' worth.

The reason for the huge disparity in estimates is twofold. First, because deep saline aquifers have no commercial value, there has been little exploration to determine their extent. Second, the fluid dynamics of how concentrated, liquefied carbon dioxide would spread through such formations is very complex and hard to model. Most analyses have simply estimated the overall volume of the formations, without considering the dynamics of how the CO2 would infiltrate them.

The MIT team modeled how the carbon dioxide would percolate through the rock, accounting not only for the ultimate capacity of the formations but the rate of injection that could be sustained over time. "The key is capturing the essential physics of the problem," Szulczewski says, "but simplifying it enough so it could be applied to the entire country." That meant looking at the details of trapping mechanisms in the porous rock at a scale of microns, then applying that understanding to formations that span hundreds of miles.

"We started with the full complicated set of equations for the fluid flow, and then simplified it," MacMinn says. Other estimates have tended to oversimplify the problem, "missing some of the nuances of the physics," he says. While this analysis focused on the United States, MacMinn says similar storage capacities likely exist around the world.

Howard Herzog, a senior research engineer with the MIT Energy Initiative and a co-author of the PNAS paper, says this study "demonstrates that the rate of injection of CO2 into a reservoir is a critical parameter in making storage estimates."

When liquefied carbon dioxide is dissolved in salty water, the resulting fluid is denser than either of the constituents, so it naturally sinks. It's a slow process, but "once the carbon dioxide is dissolved, you've won the game," Juanes says, because the dense, heavy mixture would almost certainly never escape back to the atmosphere.

While this study did not address the cost of CCS systems, many analysts have concluded that they could add 15 to 30 percent to the cost of coal-generated electricity, and would not be viable unless a carbon tax or a limit on carbon emissions was put in place.

While uncertainties remain, "I really think CCS has a role to play," Juanes says. "It's not an ultimate salvation, it's a bridge, but it may be essential because it can really address the emissions from coal and natural gas."

Backlash on 'Dancing'? Judges nitpick Melissa

ABC

Melissa Gilbert delivered a tough cha-cha, but the judges weren't impressed.

By Ree Hines

Aaaaaaand they're off! Monday night, the stars put on their dancing shoes (and some really questionable costumes) and strutted their ballroom stuff on the season 14 premiere of "Dancing With the Stars." The results? Mixed, to say the least.

Basically, the ballroom romps broke down into three categories: Good, fun and fair. Oh, wait! There was one more category: Unfair.

That's because just one night into the competition, things are already getting personal on the part of the panel of experts. What else could explain the bounty of nitpicks actress Melissa Gilbert received after tackling one of the most difficult dances of the night alongside ballroom's bad boy, Maksim Chmerkovskiy?

As any loyal "Dancing" fan knows, Maks has had his share of verbal run-ins with Len Goodman and the gang, and last season the tension between the pro and the panelists escalated right past the spinning mirror ball and through the roof. This season? It seems like his partner (and by extension, Maks) is paying for it.

The "Little House on the Prarie" star took the stage for the sort of cha-cha-cha one might expect halfway into the competition. The intense choreography, which required many more solo moves than any of the other cha-chas of the night necessitated, showed off some early strengths from the star -- such as a great sense of musicality from a non-musician/non-dancer and near-perfect timing. It also revealed some tiny, typical first-night weaknesses -- most notably imperfect arm lines and shoulders that could use more finesse in the future.

Anyone familiar with the early routines would expect such a dance to earn a decent score -- maybe a couple of 8s and a 7, which seemed the score of the night for equal dancers and for several lesser ones. But no, after a string of nitpicks about the shape of Melissa's free arm, the judges gave her 7s and a 6, unfairly landing her in the back of the pack and presumably punishing Maks for last season's sins (if you want to call them that).

Melissa was far from the only good dancer of the night, just the only one held back for it. Also from the plus side of the dance floor was actor Jaleel White, who left his "Family Matters" character, Steve Urkel, behind for a fantastic foxtrot. (Of course, there may have been a little Stefan Urquelle in those smooth moves.) For his effort, he earned two 9s, one 8 and whole lot of praise.

"I'm telling you, I thought I was watching the great Gregory Hines," said Bruno Tonioli.

Tying Jaleel on the scoreboard with a flowing foxtrot of her own was Welsh operatic-pop star Katherine Jenkins, otherwise known as "who?" to most viewers. Only time will tell if her moves are enough to overcome her lack of stateside fame.

Which might have been a concern for former model and actor William Levy, if he hadn't totally blown the ballroom away with his sexy (seriously sexy) cha-cha. Levy no doubt secured plenty of votes as he moved alongside partner Cheryl Burke and showed off moves that were part Chippendales and part ...?something else almost too naughty for ballroom. The end result? Carrie Ann Inaba has a new favorite and William has a matching set of 8s.

Disney Channel star Roshon Fegan impressed the crowd with his precision cha-cha moves, but there was a darned good reason for that. While his partner, Chelsie Hightower, may have shown him a few cha-cha pointers, the routine, influenced heavily by hip-hop moves, played right into his ringer status. After all, before getting his 23, Roshon admitted he was a lifelong freestyle hip-hop dancer.

Another one dancing for Team Good was actor Jack Wagner. Not surprisingly, given his musical background, Jack was strong on musicality. In a sweet foxtrot, he kept up with pro partner Anna Trebunskaya nicely, if not excitingly, and took 23 points for it.

Those looking for excitement found plenty of it from the fun crowd. There was Donald Driver, who saw 7s for his action-packed cha-cha with Peta Murgatroyd. Sherri Shepherd also made a fun impression with her 23-point foxtrot with the self-proclaimed "better looking" Chmerkovskiy, Val. And then singing legend Gladys Knight put the Pips to shame with her equally scored cha-cha with Tristan MacManus.

As for the just fair dancers, they were led by Derek Hough's rare non-ringer partner actress and "Extra" host, Maria Menounos, who earned 7s for her cha-cha. It was one less for Gavin DeGraw's foxtrot with pro Karina Smirnoff. And the likable Martina Navratilova, who surely won't be bringing home Tony Dovolani's much-desired mirror ball this season, tied Gavin (and Melissa?!) with her foxtrot.

So, who's premiere-night dance was worthy of the premiere ballroom boot of the season? Luckily for the stars, they won't have to worry about it yet. There's no elimination this week, so all of the hopefuls will return next Monday for another shot to show what they can do ? and more importantly, how much better than can do it than they did this week.

Who topped your personal ballroom scorecard? And who do you think should hang up their dancing shoes? Share all your "DWTS" premiere night perspectives on our Facebook page.?And don't forget to join me and Anna Chan for our weekly chat at 3:30 ET Tuesday!

Released on March 19th, 2012

SHENZHEN, China, March 19, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ ? Uni Core Holdings Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: UCHC), a Hong Kong based holding company, today introduces Shaanxi Prosperous Agriculture Company Limited?s (?Prosperous Agriculture?), one of UCHC?s subsidiaries, strategy for expansion of its agricultural resources chain channel to cover the entire nation of China.

Prosperous Agriculture is headquartered in Xi?an, Shaanxi Province, China. Prosperous Agriculture manufactures and distributes three agricultural brands: ?XiDuoFeng?, a biological fertilizer series that expands the utilization rate of conventional fertilizers, enhances quality of crops, and increases production with a bio-microbial agent produced by a proprietary bio-technology; ?Urea-Extra?, a long-lasting nitrogenous fertilizer series that increases the utilization rate of traditional nitrogenous fertilizer by more than 50%; and ?Sirius? compound fertilizer series. Prosperous Agriculture has established a national agricultural resources chain direct sales platform through the opening and acquiring of agricultural resources direct sales outlets and dealers, and by working with well-known manufacturers of agricultural products. Prosperous Agriculture integrated more than 2,000 agricultural resources sales outlets, located in areas including Shaanxi, Henan, Shandong, Hebei, Shanxi, Gansu, Ningxia and Xinjiang.

Prosperous Agriculture plans to open at least 10 additional direct sales chain stores this year. UCHC believes that when these 10 additional stores are fully operational, the annual sales may reach a turnover of RMB15 million (around US$2.4 million) with a profit of about RMB3 million (around US$480,000). However, there can be no assurance that the sales and profits are actually achieved. Furthermore, Prosperous Agriculture plans to open at least 9 direct sales chain stores through training and integrating all levels of distributors across all provinces of China.

Mr. Wang Fei, General Manager of Prosperous Agriculture, said: ?The agricultural market in China is already RMB 1 trillion. The traditional and out-dated wholesale-type sales channels can no longer meet the market demand. Prosperous Agriculture intends to transform the current traditional 3-tier wholesale model to a one-stop direct sales chain mode, by establishing additional owned direct sales chain stores and by implementing training of distributors. Stores will either be acquired or invited to join the direct sales chain system of Prosperous Agriculture as co-operatives, in order to achieve national coverage rapidly.?

ARTICLES MANIAC ? The Major Benefits Of Dental Implants In Your ...

If you want to have at least a complete tooth replaced today, you are not restricted to uncomfortable conventional dentures anymore. Dental implants are another answer that will actually offer you a strong foundation for fixed or removable teeth replacement.

One of the major benefits of having a fabricated root for a replacement tooth are having a far better appearance and being more comfortable than merely wearing standard dentures. Those who wear the regular dentures feel nervous about their removable teeth falling off every time. Dentures, on their own, also typically involve the use of sloppy adhesives. Implants eliminate all these concerns. Your dentures will look and feel like your natural teeth.

The poor-fitting dentures had the difficulty of mumbling, because they are scared that their fake teeth will fall off when they speak. But with the secure feeling that their dental implants provide, their speech is improved. Eating is also better for people that have implanted roots. They are able to eat foods they couldn?t enjoy before due to the inconvenience and, often, pain brought by wearing dentures.

Since they feel better, even smiling is more delightful. Overall self-esteem is brought back with these secure dental solutions. In addition, total oral health is also improved. You can clean your teeth better as you have less complicated access to each part of your teeth structure. For those who are going to have dental bridges, tooth reduction will not be obligatory with replacement tooth roots, so your teeth will be left untouched.

Dental implants can persist for several year. Those that take proper dental care may not experience a single problem with their implants their entire lifetime. If you are going to have this dental solution, you?ll undergo a series of procedures. At first, your dental practitioner will place a titanium post into the bone where a replacement tooth is needed. After this implant has healed, your dentist will put an abutment on the implant.

He will also take an impression of your mouth, which may be used to make your replacement tooth or crown. Ultimately, your dentist will secure the replacement tooth over the implant. Your dentist will usually require you to come back for a follow-up just to make sure that the implant and the replacement tooth are perfectly in place and working well with your whole teeth structure.
