Aparna's Cookbook: Slow cooker recipes

Meat and veggies at low for 8 hrs. Before and after.

I am a great fan of slow-cooking. The flavors are retained, and you need less grease to facilitate cooking. A friend I made in Boston often baked me dinner (for about 2 hrs). At the end of the day, it felt delicious and very satisfying. Last night, I decided to put my slow-cooker to use and picked some random veggies from my pantry- most preferably non-starchy veggies like tomatoes, onions, celery, carrots, pepper and mushrooms etc. (Some recipes might call for potatoes though). I threw in a few mutton pieces that were marinating for a curry. (Yeah, totally random). Then I switched on the cooker and went to sleep. In the morning, I was greeted with a delicious aroma of the slow cooked goodness.

For beginners: 1. Resist the temptation to take a peek, though you might give a stir into one hour cooking.
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 2. Don't use frozen meat. Thaw well before you cook it.

It is a good option for traditional recipes that ask for long cooking times, ?perfect for a working man/woman with long day out with very little energy to spend in the kitchen after a tiring day at work, and even an?hassle-free?extra dish or two when you have guests coming over.

I will post recipes while I perform the experiments. If they go well, you will know it is safe. If some of them go ?awry, you will know what to avoid. Here's to cuisson lente.

Toshiba unveils U925t Ultrabook with slide-out touchscreen, keeps the price a secret for now

DNP EMBARGO Toshiba unveils U925t Ultrabook with slideout touchscreen, keeps the price a secret for now

If Computex was a coming out party for Windows 8 Ultrabooks, Toshiba was one of the wallflowers: though the company teased some concept devices, it only let journalists photograph them from certain angles, and with their screens turned off. Now, though, we're closing the summer with yet another tradeshow, and Toshiba is using the occasion to demo its wares in more detail. The company just announced the Satellite U925t, that Windows 8 slider we showed you earlier in the summer. No word on price, except that it's expected to be "slightly north" of the Satellite U845W, which starts at $1,000. We do know that it will ship on October 26th, the day Win 8 formally launches.

In the meantime, Toshiba hasn't left any specs to the imagination. What we have here is a 12.5-inch Ultrabook with a slide-out, Gorilla Glass touchscreen. Pushing the screen up reveals a built-in keyboard, and we were pleasantly surprised in our hands-on to find that it's actually quite spacious. (With this form factor, the propped up display usually cuts into the usable keyboard space.) The keys are also backlit, and have the same feel as what you'll find on Toshiba's U845 and U845W Ultrabooks. That is to say they're shallow, and very, very quiet. The whole package weighs "just over three pounds" and measures about 0.8 inches thick, making it easy enough to stuff in a carry-on.

When you push up the display you'll also find another surprise: an autofocusing 3-megapixel camera on the back side. For good measure, there's also a lower-res shooter up front. On the inside, it packs a Core i5 processor, Intel HD 4000 graphics and a 128GB SSD. Like many other Ultrabooks, it also has Intel's Wireless Display tech on board, though you'll of course have to buy the requisite set-top box separately. Taking a tour around the device, you'll find a mix of tablet- and laptop-style trappings: two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, vents, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a volume rocker and a button for turning off screen auto-rotation.

Software-wise, Toshiba is bundling Desktop Assist, a utility designed to give Windows 8 newbies quick access to files, programs and the like. You'll also see Live Tiles for things like Toshiba Central (a support hub), Book Place and Toshiba App Place. That's all she wrote for now, but expect us to follow up closer to October 26th with a more specific price. Until then, we've got hands-on photos below, along with a short walk-through video.

HTC Desire X hands-on (video)

HTC Desire X handson

Earlier this year, HTC spent much of its mobile bombast on that other major European conference: MWC. But that doesn't mean the company showed up to Berlin empty handed. In a closed door session today, the company demoed a flagship of sorts: the Desire X. The 4-inch handset, just recently announced, may look familiar -- that's because it lifts distinctive elements of the premium One series for a decidedly upscale spin on an entry-level device. With an 800 x 480 Super LCD display, a dual-core Snapdragon S4 8255 running Sense 4.1 atop Ice Cream Sandwich and a 5-megapixel rear shooter enhanced by the outfit's ImageChip, this first-timer device is anything, but average. Curious to see how this top-shelf budget phone fared in our testing? Then follow along after the break for some initial impressions.

'Old Spice Guy' makes muscles play music

Wieden & Kennedy / Vimeo

Terry Crews mixes muscles and music with a new Old Spice video that lets users get a chance to play.

By Suzanne Choney

Watch out, "Old Spice Guy" Isaiah Mustafa. Terry Crews ? former NFL player and "Expendables" star? is muscling in on your success, playing music using his muscles?? yes, his muscles?? in an ad for the men's aftershave on Vimeo that has been played more than 1.7 million times in the last two days.

Not only does Crews use his muscles to trigger various instruments, but after the ad is over, viewers can use their own keyboards to control Crews' muscles and make their own "muscle-powered musical creations."

The clever "Muscle Music" ad campaign is by global ad agency Wieden + Kennedy. It first surfaced Aug. 23, but viewership has gone viral in the last 48 hours on Vimeo, where the after-show can be created.

"To promote the new Old Spice scent Danger Zone, Old Spice Muscleman Terry Crews does what no man has ever done before ? play a drum set using nothing but his flexing muscles," the ad agency says on its website.

"In addition to watching his historically important muscle powered performance, users also have the ability to use their keyboards to control Terry's muscles and create and share their own muscle-powered musical creations."

Or, as the firm noted on its blog:

Never has so much stupidity and technological breakthrough been combined into one thingy. It's the first ever fully interactive and sharable music video/player on Vimeo (or YouTube for that matter).

"Old Spice Muscle Music" also takes the marketing effort to Reddit, where Crews is taking questions from fans and viewers, for now.

One fan asked the star ? who also played Chris Rock's dad on the CW sitcom "Everybody Hates Chris" and U.S. President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho?in the Mike Judge movie "Idiocracy" ? and about how it is that he refuses to be typecast.

"I constantly get out of my comfort zone," he says. "Looking cool is the easiest way to mediocrity. The coolest guy in my high school ended up working at a car wash. Once you push yourself into something new, and whole new world of opportunities opens up. But you might get hurt. In fact you WILL get hurt. But amazingly when you heal ? you are somewhere you've never been." No question about that with "Old Spice Muscle Music."

?

When five teenagers struck a goofy pose for a group photo in 1982, they never expected that 30 years later they would be sitting in the same spot making the same face. The friends, now in their late 40s, talk about why they made a pact to take the same picture again and again.

Toni Morrison, Nora Ephron, and Dozens More Offer Advice in Free ...

If you?re anything like me, you yearn to become a good writer, a better writer, an inspiring writer, even, by learning from the writers you admire. But you neither have the time nor the money for an MFA program or expensive retreats and workshops with famous names. So you read W.H. Auden?s essays?and?Paris Review interviews with your favorite authors (or at least PR?s?Twitter feed); you obsessively trawl the archives of The?New York Times? ?Writers on Writing? series, and you relish every Youtube clip, no matter how lo-fi or truncated, of your literary heroes, speaking from beyond the grave, or from behind a podium at the 92nd?Street Y.

Well, friend, you are in luck (okay, I?m still talking about me here, but maybe about you, too). The Washington, DC-based non-profit Academy of Achievement?whose mission is to ?bring students face-to-face? with leaders in the arts, business, politics, science, and sports?has archived a series of talks from an incredibly diverse pool of poets and writers. They call this collection ?Creative Writing: A Master Class,? and you can subscribe to it right now on iTunes and begin downloading free video and audio podcasts from?Nora Ephron, John Updike, Toni Morrison, Carlos Fuentes, Norman Mailer, Wallace Stegner, and, well, you know how the list goes.

The Academy of Achievement?s website also features lengthy profiles?with text and downloadable audio and video?of several of the same writers from their ?Master Class? series. For example, an interview with former U.S. poet-laureate Rita Dove?is illuminating, both for writers and for teachers of writing. Dove talks about the aversion that many people have for poetry as a kind of fear inculcated by clumsy teachers. She explains:

At some point in their life, they?ve been given a poem to interpret and told, ?That was the wrong answer.? You know. I think we?ve all gone through that. I went through that. And it?s unfortunate that sometimes in schools ? this need to have things quantified and graded ? we end up doing this kind of multiple choice approach to something that should be as ambiguous and ever-changing as life itself. So I try to ask them, ?Have you ever heard a good joke?? If you?ve ever heard someone tell a joke just right, with the right pacing, then you?re already on the way to the poetry. Because it?s really about using words in very precise ways and also using gesture as it goes through language, not the gesture of your hands, but how language creates a mood. And you know, who can resist a good joke? When they get that far, then they can realize that poetry can also be fun.

Dove?s thoughts on her own life, her work, and the craft of poetry and teaching are well worth reading/watching in full. Another particularly notable interview from the Academy is with another former laureate, poet W.S. Merwin.

Merwin, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, discusses poetry as originating with language, and its loss as tantamount to extinction:

When we talk about the extinction of species, I think the endangered species of the arts and of language and all these things are related. I don?t think there is any doubt about that. I think poetry goes back to the invention of language itself. I think one of the big differences between poetry and prose is that prose is about something, it?s got a subject? poetry is about what can?t be said. Why do people turn to poetry when all of a sudden the Twin Towers get hit, or when their marriage breaks up, or when the person they love most in the world drops dead in the same room? Because they can?t say it. They can?t say it at all, and they want something that addresses what can?t be said.

If you?re anything like me, you find these two perspectives on poetry?as akin to jokes, as saying the unsayable?fascinating. These kinds of observations (not mechanical how-to?s, but original thoughts on the process and practice of writing itself) are the reason I pore over ?interviews and seminars with writers I admire. I found more than enough in this archive to keep me satisfied for months.

We?ve added ?Creative Writing: A Master Class? to?our ever-growing collection of Free Online Courses.

Josh Jones is a doctoral candidate in English at Fordham University and a co-founder and former managing editor of?Guernica / A Magazine of Arts and Politics.

HBT: Darvish Ks 10 Rays in Rangers' win

Yu Darvish turned in his best start since April on Tuesday, blanking the Rays for seven innings and striking out 10 as the Rangers won 1-0.

It was Darvish?s third straight quality start, but also the first time since July 21 that he?s ended a start without allowing at least three runs. Darvish went without giving up a run for the second time as a big leaguer; he pitched 8 1/3 scoreless innings in a win over the Yankees on April 24.

James Shields was the hard-luck loser for the Rays tonight, allowing one run and three hits in seven innings. He struck out eight while falling to 12-8.

Darvish reached double figures in strikeouts for the eighth time this year. R.A. Dickey is?second?in the majors with six such games. Felix Hernandez, Shields and Stephen Strasburg have five such games.

While Darvish has been inconsistent in amassing a 4.31 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP, he is 13-9 and the Rangers have gone 15-9 in his starts. The postseason will likely determine whether his rookie campaign is viewed as a disappointment or not.

Colombia's president: talks held with FARC rebels

(AP) ? President Juan Manuel Santos said Monday that his government has opened "exploratory talks" with Colombia's main rebel groups in a bid to end a stubborn half-century-old conflict.

Santos' announcement in a brief televised address followed mounting rumors of talks supposedly held in Cuba between representatives of his government and the leftist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.

Santos offered no details of the talks, including when they began.

"In the coming days the results of the conversations with the FARC will become known," he said.

Santos said military operations would continue "on every single centimeter of national territory" during whatever peace process might emerge.

That statement was a clear allusion to the last peace dialogue held with the FARC, when the government surrendered a Switzerland-sized swath of southern Colombia to the rebels from 1990-2002 and reconciliation efforts collapsed as the guerrillas continued to mount attacks on security forces, kidnap politicians and traffic in cocaine.

Santos also mentioned that Colombia's No. 2 rebel band, the National Liberation Army known by its Spanish-language initials ELN had expressed a desire to participate in peace talks.

The ELN has also held failed peace talks with the government in the past.

The Internet: Your Source of Income While You ... - E-hustle Online

Carla E. | Home Based Business, Work at Home Tips | 10 hours ago

How to Make Cash on The Internet

How to Make Cash On The InternetAre you one of those people who dream of touring the various countries and cultures of Europe, going on safari in Africa or experiencing the numerous exotic sights and sounds of the Orient? If so, you?re in good company. Many people long to travel, yet they have no idea how to make it happen.?

Unless you?re independently wealthy, you still face the reality of needing to earn a living while you travel. By using the Internet to your advantage, it?s possible to create the very income that you need to subsidize your journey and live an independent life anywhere you choose.

If you have an area of expertise, you can use it to cash in with your own website. Whether you possess an extensive knowledge of crocheting, cycling, nursing or another activity, you can create a money-making website that showcases your talent. Update your content regularly, and create a downloadable e-book available for purchase by your readers.

Some people choose to write Internet content for a living. Whether you sell your articles and blog posts directly to the appropriate websites, or sell content on sites that offer articles to a variety of customers, you can certainly generate enough cash to live modestly in a country with a low cost of living.

Online auctions are another way to accumulate the money you need to travel. The items you find in exotic locations may appeal to locals or to those back home. Research the market and price your items accordingly. Pick up an authoritative book that outlines the process of selling via online auctions if you?ve never placed items up for bids before.

Virtual assistants are becoming more and more popular in the Internet age. Small business owners often hire a virtual assistant rather than employing a full-time secretary to handle their correspondence. If you have office experience, you can easily market yourself as a virtual assistant and garner a regular weekly pay-check.

If you?d like the security of working for a company rather than working for yourself, consider a customer service position. Many companies hire customer service reps to work from home to provide assistance to their customers. You?ll have set hours and a pay-check that you can count on.

Consider starting a travel blog to detail your experiences around the world. Once you develop a regular following, you can entice companies to pay you to allow them to advertise on your blog. The higher the number of hits you receive, the more you?ll be able to charge your customers for advertising space.

As you can see, there are numerous ways to generate an income using nothing more than your computer and an Internet connection. No matter what type of business you choose, you can receive your pay wherever you hang your hat. With online banking, you can easily link your bank accounts and credit cards together for easy money transfers. Using services like PayPal and Western Union can allow you to send and receive money anywhere in the world.

No matter how you choose to make and manage your money, there are ways you can stretch your U.S. dollars even further. Many countries have a cost of living that is significantly lower than that in the United States. Research locales that appeal to you, and search out those that will allow you to live on the least amount of money possible.

Some countries to consider when it comes to living cheap include India, Vietnam, the Philippines, Poland, Thailand, Mexico, Peru and the Czech Republic. As currency values and economies are always changing, it?s important that you research well before any move to make sure you have the most up-to-date financial information.

Once you know the ins and outs of making a living online, travel no longer has to be a pipe dream. By doing your homework and investing sufficient time and effort, you?ll be able to create an independent source of wealth that allows you to live anywhere in the world that you desire.

Lucy James is a full-time freelance writer and a part time internet entrepreneur. After reading ?The Four Hour Work Week? four years ago, cubicle escape became her no.1 priority. She arrived back in the UK from Koh Tao Island just over a month ago where she was able to live the luxurious lifestyle of a wealthy person on not much more than ?750 per month. Lucy writes for Premier Self Storage, an ideal company to use if you?re planning on mini-retirement or medium to long-term travel overseas.

The only way to keep up with the latest about Outsourcing is to constantly stay on the lookout for new information. If you read everything you find about Outsourcing, it won?t take long for you to become an influential authority.

For reasons of having no time and resources to manage human resource functions, companies usually resort to HR outsourcing. It is a cost-effective way of managing human resource functions without having to resort to employing personnel for an in-house HR staff.

There are a lot of benefits that businesses can gain from outsourcing HR tasks. One of the most appealing benefits is the ability of a company to focus on their core business activities while still having effective HR policies.

Is HR Outsourcing For Everybody

Given that HR outsourcing is beneficial, unfortunately it is not for everybody. There are pros and cons in outsourcing and it all depends on the situation of a company. To better assess whether HR outsourcing is right for you here is a guide:

1) Do you feel comfortable letting other people (outside of the company) take care of the HR functions? There are people who just can?t trust outsiders to handle any of the company?s functions most often because of trust issues. This kind of thinking however is very much acceptable since it is possible that there are firms that take advantage of their position.

2) Does the company have enough resources to take care of HR functions? If a company has the ability to handle their own HR functions, then there is no need to outsource. This is most especially true in big companies. But if you lack the resources and HR representatives to do the job effectively, then you may opt to go for HR outsourcing.

3) Which is more costly? It should be evaluated whether outsourcing is more cost-effective than having your own staff for the HR functions. It is true that HR outsourcing usually costs less but there are some situations wherein this is not the case.

The best time to learn about Outsourcing is before you?re in the thick of things. Wise readers will keep reading to earn some valuable Outsourcing experience while it?s still free.

How To Choose An HR Firm

When you have decided to go for HR outsourcing, you need to choose wisely which HR firm to choose to avoid any complications in future.

Companies have different criteria when choosing HR firms. Some decide basing on costs, some companies look for companies that are committed to quality and there are companies that are strict on looking for both cost efficiency and quality.

When choosing an HR firm, you may want to consider these following criteria: First, you need to know the firm?s offered services. Second, you need to know the level of expertise it has in terms of your line of business. Third, you should assess the firm?s general HR experience. Fourth, there is a need to know there available resources and last but not the least, you need to be informed how flexible the contracts are.

An HR firm whether outsourced or in-house is considered as an extension of the company so you need to have one that fits your image. That is why you also need to consider the kind of HR firm you want to hire. An HR firm specializing in law firms and financial institutions may not match your new business. It is possible that it will not be able to know and understand your needs.

Types Of HR Firms

There are basically two types of HR firms: Professional Employer Organization (PEO) and Hybrid HR firm. Professional Employer Organization is for companies who are comfortable with handing over the whole HR functions to a 3rd party organization. However, if you have any inhibitions about letting somebody else take care of the HR functions, then you may opt to go for the Hybrid.

That?s how things stand right now. Keep in mind that any subject can change over time, so be sure you keep up with the latest news.

NYPD confirms: All bystanders hit by police bullets

Officials in New York City defend police officers use of deadly force, as seen on graphic video, to stop gunman Jeffrey Johnson outside the Empire State Building. Nine bystanders were injured. NBC's Lester Holt reports.

?

By Tom Hays and Verena Dobnik, NBCNewYork.com

All nine people wounded during a dramatic confrontation between police and a gunman outside the Empire State Building were struck by bullets fired by the two officers, police said Saturday, citing ballistics evidence.

The veteran patrolmen who opened fire on the suit-wearing gunman, Jeffrey Johnson, had only an instant to react when he whirled and pointed a .45-caliber pistol as they approached him from behind on a busy sidewalk.

Officer Craig Matthews shot seven times. Officer Robert Sinishtaj fired nine times, police said. Neither had ever fired their weapons before on a patrol.

More from NBCNewYork.com

The volley of gunfire felled Johnson in just a few seconds and left nine other people bleeding on the sidewalk.

In the initial chaos Friday, it wasn't clear whether Johnson or the officers were responsible for the trail of wounded, but based on ballistic and other evidence, "it appears that all nine of the victims were struck either by fragments or by bullets fired by police," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly told reporters on Saturday at a community event in Harlem.

Surveillance video shows what transpired Friday when gunman Jeffrey Johnson drew his weapon and opened fire on police on a street packed with pedestrians in midtown Manhattan. Who was Johnson and what possibly caused him to become violent?

He reiterated that the officers appeared to have no choice but to shoot Johnson, whose body had 10 bullet wounds in the chest, arms and legs.

"I believe it was handled well," Kelly said.

The officers confronted Johnson as he walked, casually, down the street after gunning down a former co-worker on the sidewalk outside the office they once shared. The shooting happened at 9 a.m., as the neighborhood bustled with people arriving for work.

'Look of death': Co-workers tell of office feud

The gunman and his victim, Steve Ercolino, had a history of workplace squabbles before Johnson was laid off from their company, Hazan Import Corp., a year ago. At one point, the two men had grappled physically in an elevator.

John Koch, the property manager at the office building where the men worked, said security camera footage showed the two pushing and shoving. The tussle ended when Ercolino, a much larger man, pinned Johnson against the wall of the elevator by the throat, Koch said. Ercolino let him go after a few moments, and the two men went their separate ways.

"They didn't like each other," Koch said.

On Friday, Johnson shot Ercolino five times in the head and face, a medical examiner's spokeswoman said. After the shooting, Johnson, an eccentric T-shirt designer and avid bird-watcher who wore a suit every day, even when photographing hawks in Central Park, walked away as if nothing had happened.

Alerted by a construction worker, Officers Matthews and Sinishtaj gave chase as Johnson rounded a corner and walked along Fifth Avenue, in front of the landmark skyscraper.

A security videotape from the scene shows several civilians ? including three sitting on a bench only a few feet away ? scattering as the officers opened fire.

Police have determined that three people were struck by whole bullets ? two of which were removed from victims at the hospital ? and the rest were grazed "by fragments of some sort," Kelly said.

Three people remained hospitalized, all in stable condition, police said.

Both Matthews, 39, and Sinishtaj, 40, joined the nation's largest police department 15 years ago.

Matthews had drawn attention earlier this year by filing a lawsuit against the New York Police Department that accused his superiors of unfairly punishing him for not meeting arrest quotas. A judge threw out the complaint.

There was no immediate response to a message left with the union representing the two officers.

The shooting didn't deter tourists from flocking to the Empire State Building as usual on Saturday.

Patricia Flynn, 57, a retired schoolteacher, visited the building's peak with her elderly mother, who once worked in the skyscraper as a secretary.

"But I didn't tell her what happened," said Flynn, adding that her mother was unaware of Friday's shooting. "And she really enjoyed the view."

A group of 31 tourists from all over France held a meeting Friday night at their nearby hotel to decide whether to cancel their planned Empire State Building visit.

"We were scared, and we thought it was a risk," said Catherine Krukar, 38, a teacher.

But in the end, they went ahead with the visit, she said after descending from the observation tower,

"We know it can happen anywhere, and we wanted to see the Empire State Building," Krukar said. "It was beautiful!

Sunday Recipe: Simple Vegan Chocolate Hazelnut Ice Cream ...

Because ice cream should be super simple.

When I came across one-ingredient ice cream on Food52, it seemed too good to be true. But it?s not.

The beauty is in bananas, which when frozen and put in the food processor, turn into a fluffy mass of goodness. And it?s raw. And it?s vegan.

I was so excited about the discovery I immediately sent it to fellow food connoisseur Aylin Erman,?who promptly responded with ?Girl, you need to make this ASAP. It changed my life.?

A life changing recipe that only involves one ingredient? Yes, please. But as we all know, bananas are only made better by chocolate, so this version gets the addition of homemade hazelnut chocolate spread (in other words: homemade Nutella) for a decadent but super simple dessert.

Vegan Chocolate Hazelnut Ice Cream

For ice cream:

For chocolate hazelnut spread:

  • 1 cup roasted hazelnuts
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/8 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 4 tablespoons canola oil or hazelnut oil

Directions

To make chocolate hazelnut spread, put all ingredients in food processor and mix until a spreadable consistency.

To make ice cream, cut the bananas into small chunks and place on a baking pan. Freeze for at least 1-2 hours.

Place banana pieces into a food processor and churn until a smooth consistency.

Mix together two parts banana ice cream and one part chocolate hazelnut spread until well blended. Serve immediately or store in airtight container in freezer.

Attorney predicts tough road for Casey Anthony after probation

ORLANDO, Florida (Reuters) - Casey Anthony, the young Florida mother found not guilty of killing her 2-year-old daughter Caylee, completed a year of probation early on Friday but her attorney said freedom would be limited for the woman widely reviled after the acquittal.

Anthony, who had been on probation for check fraud, will "always be imprisoned by her reputation, deserved or not," Orlando lawyer Charles Greene told Reuters.

Anthony, 26, spent three years in jail awaiting trial on a murder charge after Caylee's body was found in woods near the Anthony family home months after the child disappeared in 2008.

Following her acquittal during a highly publicized trial last year, Anthony began serving a one-year probation for check fraud uncovered during the investigation into Caylee's death. Anthony pleaded guilty to making purchases using a friend's checks.

In an unusual move, a judge allowed Anthony to serve her probation at an undisclosed location due to the public outrage that followed the not-guilty verdict in the murder case. A poll at the time ranked Anthony as the most hated American.

A Florida Department of Corrections spokeswoman would not confirm the exact time of Anthony's release from the probation program for security reasons but said she did not commit any violations that would have prolonged her term.

Greene said Anthony's probation ended at 12:01 a.m. (0401 GMT) on Friday.

He would not reveal where Anthony will go now or whether she will return to the home near Orlando that she once shared with her parents. Anthony and her parents became estranged after her defense team alleged that she was molested by her father, an unproven charge that he denied.

"I can't tell you anything like that," Greene said of Anthony's living situation. "We're still greatly concerned about her safety. Security precautions are being taken to ensure that she continues to be safe and her whereabouts are not disclosed."

Greene said he did not know how Anthony would support herself.

"She is looking forward to being free to move about and make decisions for her life," Greene said. "I think she just wants to live out of the public eye and live as normal a life as she can, which will be a difficult thing to do because she's been so vilified."

Rodgers leads Packers over Bengals 27-13

CINCINNATI (AP) ? Cedric Benson didn't want to leave.

The former Cincinnati Bengals running back was the last player off the field Thursday night, savoring his homecoming. He made his debut with the Green Bay Packers and had a few nice runs during a 27-13 preseason victory.

Afterward, he hugged former teammates and coaches at midfield before finally calling it a day ? and a very good one at that.

"It felt good," said Benson, who carried six times for 38 yards. "I was joking around earlier that I've only been here a week and a half and I'm playing the first half of the game. Truly, honestly, it felt like I haven't had a lot of time off."

Although Benson was the most familiar running back at Paul Brown Stadium, Aaron Rodgers was the best.

The MVP quarterback led the Packers to a big first half, running for 52 yards and two touchdowns. He repeatedly avoided the rush and took off, finishing as the game's top rusher.

"l always joke around with him about being a running back, showing his running back skills," Benson said. "He's got speed on those rollouts and that's very helpful."

No surprise to Rodgers, who ran for three touchdowns last season while setting a club record with 45 touchdown passes.

"I think I've showed it in the past," Rodgers said.

The Packers (No. 1 in the AP Pro32) wanted to look crisp coming off a drubbing by Cleveland. Rodgers led the way, going 12 of 22 for 154 yards while leading the Packers to 245 yards and a 17-6 halftime lead. He scrambled six times, scoring on runs of 12 and 5 yards.

"We couldn't keep the quarterback from extending drives and scoring," Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said. "We didn't do a good job of recognizing a mobile quarterback and getting him down and strapping him to the ground."

Rodgers made only one mistake, throwing an interception on a mix-up with a receiver.

"We were flat in the first half," said Bengals cornerback Terence Newman, who had the interception. "We didn't do anything."

Benson led the Bengals (No. 14) in rushing each of the last four years, but they decided to let him leave as a free agent and signed BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Benson signed with the Packers (1-2) on Aug. 14 and is learning the play book, spending extra study time with the quarterbacks.

He picked up 8 yards on his first carry, receiving a mix of boos and cheers from the crowd of 52,584.

"Ced was great," Rodgers said. "He's getting his feet wet. He made some runs out of nothing and did a nice job on some check-downs. It was a good start for him. We're excited to have him."

The Bengals (2-1) played their starters into the third quarter but they couldn't get a touchdown, failing even on a first-and-goal from the 1. Andy Dalton played the entire first half and the opening series of the third quarter, going 5 of 17 for 40 yards and two sacks. He scrambled three times for a team-high 36 yards.

Cincinnati settled for field goals of 42 and 30 yards by Mike Nugent, the second coming after the Bengals had the first-and-goal.

"We didn't play very well tonight," Dalton said. "We didn't get anything going."

One of the Packers' main concerns was how the offense did when Rodgers left the game. Backup Graham Harrell has struggled in the preseason, throwing two interceptions. He opened the second half and had a hand in another turnover.

The Packers fumbled at their 15-yard line when Harrell and John Kuhn failed to have a clean handoff. No. 2 quarterback Bruce Gradkowski threw for a touchdown on the next play.

Linebacker Jamari Lattimore returned an interception 27 yards for the Packers' final score.

Cincinnati sat five of its reserve cornerbacks because of injuries, including top draft pick Dre Kirkpatrick, who has missed all three preseason games while recovering from an injured left knee.

The Bengals rested Green-Ellis and Bernard Scott, their top two running backs. Brian Leonard started and carried four times for 19 yards.

NOTES: The replacement officials incorrectly spotted the ball 1 yard shy of the line of scrimmage for a play in the first quarter. ... Packers WR Tom Crabtree left with a shoulder injury after S Taylor Mays lowered his shoulder for a hit in the first quarter, drawing a personal foul penalty. ... Green Bay DT Ryan Pickett left with a calf injury. ... Bengals LB Manny Lawson injured his groin in the first quarter.
